Our last stop before heading back to Calgary was John Ward Fine Coffee. This cafe was suggested to us by No. 6 Coffee. This café is located in in the heart of downtown Nelson.

The Interior

We got there right when they opened and it was already busy. They had a giant farm table and a bunch of other tables. Every table and chair was different. It was a very charming eclectic cafe.

It seemed like this cafe was more of a grab and go kind of place since a good portion of people were coming in grabbing a drink and a snack and heading to work.

They also had a small patio located to the side of their shop which was very welcoming and would have been nice to sit on but it was a little chilly that morning.

The Drinks

My daughter and I ordered a Latte for $3.80. The latte had some bolder chocolate undertones. It was a little too dark for myself. Overall, it wasn’t too bad. They were using Origins Coffee Roasters. Origins is located on Granville Island in Vancouver.

My wife ordered a London Fog for $4.30 and it was good and smooth, there was no teabag which was very good.

They also use Josephine Teas, this is their own line of certified organic and fairly traded teas. The teas are named after John Ward’s wife, Josephine Ward.

On the way out my wife also ordered a Chai Tea for $3.80 and it was a house made and smelled amazing. It was authentically made and there was no sugary after taste which was delicious.

The Food

I ordered a Lemon Blueberry Scone for $2.75 and it was absolutely delicious, unfortunately it lacked lemon flavour. Which is too bad, because other than that the scone was really good.

My wife ordered a Ginger Snap Cookie for $2.00 and it had a good texture and tasted really good.

My daughter ordered a Richety Uncle for $2.00. It was like oatmeal in a bar, which was really delicious.

The Service

The staff was very friendly and helped in answering all our questions.

Last Words

This is a really cool little cafe and I am really glad the guys at No.6 recommended it to us. Next time we are in Nelson I can definitely see us visiting John Ward again. If you are in Nelson, make sure you stop here for a beverage.
