KAFFEEKLATSCH – BOOZY

Kirschwasser Schokomilch

“A Boozy black forest mocha. Have your cake and drink it too!”

Price: $14.00

This drink was absolutely delicious. We asked for the drink without the coffee again and it was amazing. It really tastes like a Black Forest Cake with a boozy twist. The addition of the Kirsch really added a warming sensation to the hot chocolate.

The only comment we had was we wished the hot chocolate was hotter, temperature wise.

HOLY CANNOLI COFFEE COMPANY

Chocolate Covered Raspberry Hot Chocolate

“Dark Chocolate Raspberry Hot Chocolate, Raspberry Coulis, Chocolate Drizzle, and Freeze Dried Raspberries.”

Price: $6.10

This hot chocolate is presented in a beautiful manner even in to-go cup. This hot chocolate tastes exactly like a chocolate covered raspberry which was amazing. The only comment we had is wish the freeze dried raspberries was more of a powder since we had some chunks in the hot chocolate. Other than that it was a very delicious hot chocolate.

One last comment, when you drink all the way to the bottom we noticed that there was a bunch of un-melted chocolate chips, so we would hope that those could be melted a little more.

94 TAKE THE CAKE – OKOTOKS

0094 Chocolatetini

“Steamed not Stirred. This hot chocolate has a caramel rim and complete with an Olive Macaron. We are donating $1 from every 0094 to Kids Cancer Care.”

Price: $6.95

We were really excited to head to Okotoks to try a hot chocolate from the Okotoks Hot Chocolate Festival. The festival runs from February 10-20 and we knew that we would have to head out and try the creation from 94 Take The Cake.

Sherry, the owner, really stepped up her creativity with this delicious hot chocolate. There is a little Olive Macaron (not olive flavoured) on this Chocolatetini. This was one of the most creative hot chocolates we had all day.

If you are in the South of Calgary, take the additional 10 minute drive and head out to try this creative hot chocolate from 94 Take the Cake.

LINA’S ITALIAN MARKET

Creazione

“A super smooth, thick and rice 70% dark chocolate, topped with wild berries, Italian meringues and a rose flavoured whipped cream, finished with rose petal for decoration. Creazione means creation and creativity, it is the key to our specialty drink. The different textures are perfect together. The chocolate is smooth, the meringues and the berries are crunchy, the rose cream is light. The flavour is intense but balanced by the acidity of the raspberries the sweetness of the rose mousse. Creazione is also beautiful; the presentation is delicate, elegant… and Instagram friendly.”

Price: $6.99

So let me just say that we were very disappointed when we received this hot chocolate because it looked nothing like the picture. It was not beautiful, delicate or elegant, and definitely not Instagram friendly. We were really disappointed at the presentation of this beverage.

After saying that, the chocolate portion of the drink did taste pretty good, except when the pieces of meringues fell into the drink giving weird chunks in the drink. We do not like the chunks in our drinks.

Overall this was a disappointing drink, but we would hope that someone else gets a better drink than we did.

TOTALITEA

White Winter Chai

“Enjoy this comforting blend of warm spices like cinnamon, cloves, ginger, vanilla and cardamom in combination with delicious rich creamy white chocolate. Topped with whipped cream and spiced sugar sprinkles.”

Price: $6.00

We were really excited to try this hot chocolate and with it being a tea based hot chocolate it made us that much more excited. Upon talking to the girl working she told us that it is made from the Vanilla Chai Cold Brew Tea mixed with milk. Which sounded really delicious.

Unfortunately we found that we wished the drink had more chai flavour it was not as strong as what we had wished it would have been. It was great to see that they used the Vanilla Spiced Sugar from Silk Road, but we didn’t really get that flavour in the drink either.

If you would like to try a subtle chai flavoured hot chocolate this is the drink for you. Overall it was a very good hot chocolate.

*A bonus of this drink is that $2 of this hot chocolate is donated to Meals On Wheels*

BLACK SHEEP

Chocolat Chaud Facon Banana Split

“Black Sheep’s fruity take on the hot chocolate! A comforting banana split in a cup. A fresh strawberry white hot chocolate topped with a rich vanilla bean whipped cream, fresh banana, house made chocolate sauce.”

Price: $9.00

If you are wanting to treat yourself to a delicious hot chocolate, we would suggest you head over to Black Sheep and grab their Banana Split Hot Chocolate and a delicious baked good.

This hot chocolate is absolutely delicious and it tastes exactly, we mean exactly, like a banana split. It had smooth and creamy vanilla bean whip with homemade chocolate sauce and strawberry chocolate. We could not believe how delicious this hot chocolate was.

Black Sheep’s hot chocolates in the past have not disappointed and nor has this one. Make sure you get over there to try this one before the end of February.  It is definitely worth the price, trust us!

CAFFE BEANO

Golden Chai Chocolate

“Caffe Beano’s February delight is warm, spicy and golden! Our homemade (secret) Chai blend is a perfect union with our decadent semi sweet Callebaut chocolate and a golden crown of whipped cream! YUM!!”

Price: $6.25

The presentation of the drink is absolutely pretty even in a to-go cup. The way they have thought about the presentation is awesome.

The drink was very good had a nice subtle chai flavour, we did wish that the chai was a little stronger. Also we didn’t taste much chocolate mixed with the chai, but it was a very good drink.

We really like the chunky sprinkles and the addition of the chocolate shavings on the top of the drink. The staff were very friendly and was excited that we were there to try their creation.

THE CHOCOLATE LAB

Joy Drop

“We created this year’s hot chocolate entry to hit you right in the feels. Warming you up from the inside out, and keeping the smile on your face – sip after sip. We start with our own Venezuela origin dark chocolate produced in-house from the bean, add some caramelized chocolate for the right amount of sweetness and creaminess, and finish with a generous squeeze of our house made bourbon caramel sauce.”

Price: $6.00

Chocolate Lab has moved from Centre Street to Highfield Circle, this location is a lot bigger and really well designed.

This hot chocolate is very thick and creamy with a great caramel flavor. When we got it the temperature was very hot which was nice that we could enjoy the drink over a longer period of time. We opted to get the beautiful chocolate snowflake for the additional $1. It was very pretty and tasted amazing.

This was a very good hot chocolate and we would recommend trying this drink if you are looking for one to try.

MILANO

Black Forest Hot Chocolate

“A delicious blend of liquid, cherry chocolate, topped with whipped cream, home-made brownie crumble, and a maraschino cherry drizzle.”

Price: $6.30

This was another hot chocolate that we were excited to try and it only slightly disappointed. The brownie chunks on top of the drink were very good until they fell into the drink and then the drink had chunks. Nothing worse than enjoying a drink and getting a chunk of brownie in your mouth.

We were sad that the hot chocolate didn’t have better Black Forest flavor, the whip portion of this hot chocolate was the best part because it had pieces of each element of the cake.

We expected more from this drink since the ones that they have done in the past have been very good.
