CAFFE ARTIGIANO

Incendiary Orange Explosion

“Succulent flavours of orange meet creamy milk chocolate, infused with smoke. Art level baristas are torching artisan handmade marshmallow flames, creating fresh roasted marshmallow as topping and edible feature.”

Price: $6.50

We were really excited to try this drink, especially my daughter, we are sad to report that it was slightly disappointing. We did not get any Orange Explosion of any kind. The smokey flavour was very strange, having it in the drink instead of in the marshmallow was definitely different.

We wish the smokey flavour was a little less since it was strange drinking it. The best part of the drink was the marshmallow for sure.

CORNERSTONE MUSIC CAFE

The Wooly Cardigan

“This rich hot chocolate is the very essence of being curled up by the fire in your favourite wooly sweater. Cardamom and cinnamon add warmth and texture to this earthy bittersweet hot chocolate. Creamy and comforting, with a hint of maple to soften the edges of a chilly Canadian winter.”

Price: $4.95 Small, $5.50 Medium, $6.00 Large

We found this hot chocolate to be very simple this year. The flavour was not very strong, we could taste a little cinnamon but none of the other flavours. We were kind of sad since their hot chocolate last year was really good.

Unfortunately we found that the last few sips really disgusting because all the spices had dropped to the bottom and made the last bit of the drink undrinkable. We were unsure how to help make this better.

KAFFEEKLATSCH

Schwartzwalder Schokomilch

“A black forest mocha. Have your cake and drink it too!”

Price: $7.00

This hot chocolate did not disappoint. It is an amazing Black Forest Hot Chocolate. This time we asked for it without the shot of espresso to try the flavour of the chocolate. It tasted exactly like a Black Forest Cake and a bonus was the cherries on this drink are those that you would find in a Black Forest Cake. It was really amazing at how much it really tasted like the cake. It was smooth and really really good.

Make sure you go and try this hot chocolate.

CANELA

Hazelicious Orange

“Made with Valrhona dark chocolate, oat milk, in-house hazelnut spread, natural orange oil and topped with orange whipped cream. So rich and dangerously delicious. 100% vegan!”

Price: $6.00

When we first read about this drink we were worried about the hazelnut spread since we are not a fan of hazelnut. Thankfully this hot chocolate had an amazing orange flavour with a subtle hazelnut flavour, it was amazing.

This hot chocolate was much creamy than other hot chocolates since it was made with Oat Milk. The combination of the flavours were amazing and really worked well together. We would recommend you trying this hot chocolate even if you are not vegan.

MONKI BISTRO

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Hot Chocolate

“A White Chocolate and Cinnamon Cereal Milk Hot Chocolate topped with Whipped Cream, Crumbled Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Caramel!”

Price: $7.50

This was one of the hot chocolates that we were most excited about trying, after seeing all the pictures that they were posting about this drink, we had to go and try it. Thankfully we were able to sit and enjoy the drink the restaurant, plus this way it was a lot prettier drinking it in a glass instead of a paper cup.

Everything about this drink is absolutely amazing, there is a great cinnamon toast flavour including the cinnamon toast milk which added another level to the drink. Plus the half of a cinnamon bun is amazing and it was even warmed up which was great. It was not overly sweet even with it being a white hot chocolate.

You definitely need to go and try this hot chocolate and check out their food that they have as well. You will not be disappointed.

SAWA MARKET & CAFE

All Hail Hot Chocolate

“Decadent milk chocolate infused with cardamom and topped with real whip cream and a slice of Arabian ice cream and ground pistachio. *pistachio can be removed due to nut allergies*”

Price: $6.50

This hot chocolate was a very pretty hot chocolate, we did wish we could have got it in a glass because it was much prettier. Even though the hot chocolate still tastes the same and looked good as well. We pulled the Arabian Ice Cream off so that we could try it individually. It was very good and had a marshmallow like texture, stretchy kind of like gum, it’s really hard to describe but it tasted very good and it is very unique.

Other than that the hot chocolate was very good, it has a very strong cardamom flavour and if you like that then this is the drink for you. The only comment we have is that the chunks of pistachio that were sprinkled on and from the ice cream fall into the drink and create chunks if you would and we are not that big of fans of chunks in our hot chocolates.

CALGARY HERITAGE ROASTING CO.

Campfire Delight

“Your favourite campfire classic, the s’more! Our creamy hot chocolate with smoke infused marshmallow and a ritual doughnut graham cracker crusted doughnut hole. You’re not going to want to miss out on this smokey campfire inspired delight!”

Price: $6.50

The lady working when we visited Calgary Heritage was very nice and it was great chatting with her about the drink and some of the other ones we have tried. She talked about the Campfire Delight and it was great to hear that they were getting really good feedback on the beverage.

It was a nice drink to take a picture of because you can see the marshmallow and the doughnut hole that they skewer for the top garnish. You could really smell the smoke coming from the marshmallow, it smells exactly like a campfire. The doughnut from Ritual Doughnuts was very good and a nice combination with the smokey hot chocolate.

On these cold days this hot chocolate is the perfect thing to warm you up and pretend that you are sitting next to a campfire.

ROSSO

The Swiss Mountaineer

“Enjoy the forward taste of honey nougat, with white baker’s chocolate and Toblerone on the finish. Inspired by a view of the Alps, the topping features whipped cream with a dusting of chocolate shavings and matcha.”

Price: $5.50

This was a very pretty hot chocolate with the chocolate shavings and the matcha dusting, when hearing what was in the drink we were initially worried that it was going to be sweet since it was with white chocolate. To our surprise it was not sweet at all, it was a delicious combination of all the flavours. There was a subtle honey flavour near the end of the drink. Overall this was a very good hot chocolate that you all should go and try.

BEA’S CAFE

The Love Me Tender

“Dark Chocolate, cream, and a touch of vanilla, finished with Chantilly cream, house made gold paint, chocolate, candy bark and shavings.”

Price: $6.00

Heading down to Inglewood to try Bea’s Café creation of The Love Me Tender, the hot chocolate was creamy and smooth. The addition of the Chantilly Cream was a nice touch, we wish that it wouldn’t have fell into the drink so fast. The chocolate bark had really great flavour and there was a nice sweet aspect with the graham cracker and chocolate.
