EUPHORIA CAFE

Butterbeer Hot Chocolate

“We are taking you on a journey to Hogwarts! Our baristas have used their trained wizardly magic to bring to your our Butterbeer Hot Chocolate. A creamy delicious in-house made blend of melted chocolate, butterscotch, butter, and steamed milk. The final touch, a magic wand (pocky), and sapphire sprinkles on top to bring the magic alive. We can’t wait to share this will all you muggles. *Cannot be made 100% dairy free, you can sub the milk for oat, almond, or lactaid milk.”

Price: $6.00

This is a creamy hot chocolate with a nice butterscotch flavour. The pocky makes it a fun way to be treated like a wand for all those magical people out there. There was not that much butter flavour that we could taste, but you could really get the butterscotch.

We really loved the creativity and that we could be a part of the magical community even if it was for a short period of time. Fly on over and have yourself a Butterbeer, you may even run into Harry Potter or Dobby the House Elf grabbing a hot chocolate.

BULLET CAFE

Bullet Oil Hot Chocolate

“Imagine a smooth n’ creamy cup of hot chocolate milk filled with rich n’ velvety Bullet Oil that is nourishing and invigorating. The Bullet Oil is our secret homemade with love recipe consisting of organic coconut oil, organic cocoa with a hint of Saigon cinnamon. We top the hot chocolate off with homemade chocolate whip cream, semi-sweet chocolate drizzle and a dash of cinnamon. This drink is best with chocolate milk, but is also quite tasty with the 5 different milk alternatives we offer. The Bullet Oil Hot Chocolate will capture a new taste bud in your palate. We can’t wait for you to try!”

Price: $5.40

This is a delicious hot chocolate with a nice hint of coconut and a kick of spice from the cinnamon. It is a nice warming hot chocolate and the addition of the chocolate whipped cream just adds another level to the hot chocolate. We were very pleased that it was not overwhelming cinnamon, because sometimes it can be overdone, but it was a delicious combination of the two coconut and chocolate.

The only comment we have is nearing the end of the drink you get that slick oil texture on your lips when you take a sip.

PIXIE’S CANDY PARLOUR

Drop it Like it’s Hot

“We are all about experiences at Pixie’s, which is why we wanted to offer you an interactive way to enjoy your hot chocolate! Enjoy dropping our in-store made fresh Sea Salt Caramel Fudge into steamed milk, stir it in and watch as the fudge melts into a luxurious, rich hot chocolate. Each cup of Drop it Like it’s Hot features flavor notes of caramel, rich fudge, and topped with the perfect hint of pink Himalayan salt!”

Price: $5.50

This candy store is located in The District in Stoney just off of Country Hills Blvd NE and 14 Street NE. This is their new location, before this they were located in the Symons Valley Famers Market.

This hot chocolate is very interactive and delicious. Pixie’s Candy Parlour gives you homemade Sea Salt Fudge on a skewer to mix in the hot milk to make your own hot chocolate. It is so much fun. It is their first year in YYC Hot Chocolate Fest and we could tell that they will do very well. Once all mixed together you get the perfect amount of salt and chocolate, it has clearly been worked on for a while to get the best balance of the two flavours.

This hot chocolate is on another level since the fudge is made in house and you get exactly 22 grams to make the perfect hot chocolate, any more and it’s too salty, any less and it’s too milky, Jacky the owner really made sure it was absolutely delicious and balanced.

If you are heading up Deerfoot near Country Hills make sure you stop and try this amazing hot chocolate and even pick up a couple candies while you are there as well.

WAVES

Alberta Rose Hot Chocolate

“The Wave Alberta Rose Hot Chocolate is made with our decadent Belgian white chocolate chips melted into milk with a delicate hint of pistachio and rose.”

Price: $6.95

We were excited to try this hot chocolate because Bridgeland had created a similar hot chocolate a couple years back using rose water as well. When we arrived we had asked how strong the rose flavour was and the lady working said it was pretty strong so we ordered one regular and one half rose since we wanted to see the difference. Unfortunately there was no difference, they were both very very sweet and there was no pistachio or rose petal garnishes like the picture. On top of it all we didn’t get any pistachio flavour in the hot chocolate at all.

We hope that they can make adjustments to make it better since we are still early in the month.

LAZY LOAF AND KETTLE

Red Velvet Hot Chocolate

“A decadent blend of Red Velvet Chocolate Sauce, Cherry and Steamed Milk topped with Cream Cheese Whipped Cream, Red Chocolate Curls and Chocolate Sauce. Enjoy the signature taste of a classic Red Velvet Cake in Hot Chocolate form!”

Price: Medium $4.25, Large $5.00

This hot chocolate was a little sweeter than we expected it to be, but it was still delicious. It had a nice cherry flavour throughout the whole hot chocolate. Overall the hot chocolate did taste good and there was nice flavour all the way to the last sip of the drink.

Unfortunately we didn’t really taste the cream cheese whipped cream, it tasted like normal whip cream. We were looking forward to trying a Red Velvet Hot Chocolate and we didn’t really get the Red Velvet Cake flavouring in this hot chocolate.

HIGHER GROUND CAFE

Black Forest Hot Chocolate

“Our Black Forest is creamy and delicious! Made with layers of goodness starting with dark chocolate, steamed milk, sweet cherry syrup, whip cream, covered with milk chocolate shavings and topped off with a cherry.”

Price: Small $5.95, Medium $6.55, Large $6.85

This is amazing! It tastes exactly like a Black Forest Cake, it is a real winner. You taste the chocolate, the cherry, and the whip, altogether it is like taking a bit of the cake. Honestly this is one of the best from Higher Ground that we have had in the years we have participated. If you are a fan of Black Forest Cake then we would suggest that you head down to Higher Ground and try their creation. We believe that this drink will appeal to a lot of people because of how good it is.

VENDOME

Flaming Snowflake Hot Chocolate

“Valrhona chocolate, steamed milk, house made chili flake syrup, pinch of salt.”

Price: Small $4.85, Medium $5.55, Large $6.xx

If you are looking for a hot chocolate that has a slightly spicy taste then this is the one for you. The hot chocolate has a nice sense of heat when you drink it from the chili flake syrup, unfortunately we didn’t taste the hint of salt. Overall this was a delicious hot chocolate with a hint of heat.

BUBBLEMANIA

Spicy Ginger Black Tea Hot Chocolate

“This year, our hot chocolate is made with steeped Assam black tea and gets an extra dose of heat from spicy ginger syrup. This surprisingly delightful trio will keep you warm all winter long! No hot chocolate is complete without a big pile of whipped cream and the cherry on top? A cookie on top – Spicy Ginger Cookie.

Price: $6.20

We were really excited about this hot chocolate since the ones in the past were absolutely amazing. This year’s creation is delicious with a tea based hot chocolate, using Assam black tea with the mixture of chocolate is a great combination of the two the flavours. There is a great kick of heat from the spicy ginger syrup, the best part is it doesn’t linger in the back of your throat… you take a sip and there is the heat, next time you swallow it is gone. It is just amazing!

The ginger cookie you get with the drink is also delicious. It is a soft cookie with just the right amount of ginger and dusted with a little sugar. YUM! That is all I can say… delicious!

Honestly you need to check this hot chocolate out before the end of February, you will not be disappointed.

BIKE AND BREW

S’more’tacular Hot Chocolate

“Nothing brings back warm memories like the taste of a goey, chocolately, graham crackery S’more… except maybe a Hot Chocolate S’more combo on a cool winter’s day! Imagine warming your hands on a decadent hot chocolate, topped with a mouthwatering deconstructed S’more made from graham crackers, Hershey’s chocolate and toasted marshmallows, making one tasty treat.”

Price: $6.50 Large, $6.00 Medium

We have loved all the hot chocolates that Bike and Brew has done in the last few years so we were really excited to try this one. We headed down and had a heck of a time trying to find parking since Bridgeland was very busy.

It is a beautifully created hot chocolate and we were excited to have a S’more flavoured hot chocolate. The best part was they torched the marshmallows with a butane lighter and not a torch, which we thought was absolutely amazing.

Our only comment was that we wished it would have had more of the S’more flavour throughout the hot chocolate. After we drank half of it the S’more flavour was pretty much gone. Overall though this was a delicious hot chocolate.
