Canela Vegan Bakery and Cafe

Kukuh Xocolatl

“Canela Bakery is now serving an authentic Mayan hot chooclat, Kukuh Xocolatl (coh-coh-sho-ko-laht) that reflects our ethnic roots of our small, local, and family-owned business where Mexican flavours intersect with veganism! Kukuh Xocolatl is an ode to our Mexican origins by using canela (Spanish for cinnamon), corn, and other spices. So feel like a warrior by drinking our authentic Mayan hot chocolate served with a churro as your mixing tool (and bonus snack)!”

Price: $7.25

The churro that you get with this drink is really delicious. When you order this drink you get the choice between three milks, oat, soy and almond, we made ours with oat which made it creamy. The cinnamon was very strong but the oat seemed to tune the cinnamon down a little bit. It says that there is other spices, but all we got when we were drinking this hot chocolate was all cinnamon.

Overall I think that if they tuned down the cinnamon a little this drink would be absolutely amazing and perfect.

SIPs Avenida

Bullwinkle’s Peppermint Hot Chocolate

“This drink combines Peppermint Schnapps with The Spice Cabinet Gourmet Hot Chocolate. Topped with whipped cream and candy cane sprinkles. It is very difficult to stop after the first one!”

Price: $8.00

This was a very pretty drink when the lady brought it over. Right away you can smell the peppermint which was nice. The added schnapps really added a warmth to the drink for sure. The drink was very good, the combination of the chocolate and the peppermint was really good and as the drink cooled the peppermint settled and tasted more soothing.

This is a really good priced alcohol hot chocolate and totally worth the drive.

Teamo Fruit Tea

White Chocolate Rose

“Hot White Chocolate with Rose.”

Price: $6.00

This hot chocolate really surprised us for sure. It was made with white chocolate powder, milk, and water, with rose buds in the bottom. Surprisingly this drink was absolutely delicious, the drink was not overpowering rose flavour which was great. Before you took a sip you could really smell the rose and then when you take a sip you get a hint of the rose with the hot chocolate.

This was a very good hot chocolate and it is very delicious. If you managed to get a rose petal in your sip, you got a stronger rose flavour for sure. If you are around the Avenida Market then I would stop by there and try either of their creations.

Teamo Fruit Tea

Spicy Ginger Double Dark Chocolate

“Fresh cold pressed ginger comes with an extra rich dutch style dark chocolate.”

Price: $6.00

We were very impressed at how amazing this drink actually tasted since it was made with chocolate mix, water, and milk with the fresh pressed ginger juice. It had a strong ginger taste for sure, for those that don’t like a strong ginger flavour, you can ask for less ginger.

They did use canned whip, but it worked with the drink for sure. The drink was topped with candied ginger which was really god as well. The more you drank the stronger the ginger got and it got really hard to drink. It was quite delicious though for sure.

Holy Cannoli

Breakfast in Bed

“Maple infused dark chocolate hot chocolate, vanilla whipped cream, maple cherrios, maple drizzle, and cinnamon sugar sprinkle.”

Price: $6.50

The hot chocolate has a really good maple flavour for sure, you really taste it throughout the whole drink. The whip was a nice addition as well as the maple drizzle. I wish it had a little less maple since as you drink more and more, nearly half way down you really started to get a lot more maple. At one point it was very strong maple.

Overall the drink was very good with all the flavours we just wish it was a little less maple.

Café Jindo

Yuja White Hot Chocolate

“We decided on crafting a playfully light yet comforting hot chocolate by using a white chocolate and yuja blend topped with in-house whipped cream, chocolate flakes and citrus zest. This drink is presented with French Valrhona yuja feves that provides a silken and distinctive blond chocolate experience while a specialty-made chocolate disk elegantly rounds out the beverage.”

Price: $6.75

This hot chocolate was absolutely refreshing, if I can even call a hot chocolate that. The citrus lemon with the white hot chocolate really makes this an amazing drink. The hot chocolate is outstanding, it is so smooth and all the flavours of the drink blend so perfectly together.

The white chocolate is not sweet at all, the combination of yuja and citrus really blend and make it the perfect delectable drink we have ever had. We can honestly say that this is an absolute tender as one of our favourites for this year.

Cravings Market Restaurant

Crema Di Arachidi Cioccolato

“Enjoy our deconstructed version of an Italian hot chocolate made from scratch, featuring fresh, roasted peanuts, hot caramel-peanut sauce, salted peanut and caramel whipped cream and served with a salted caramel éclair roll. This spirited treat will be paired with Cadello 88, a sweet spirit made from 8 Italian ingredients to infuse flavours of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, star anise, vanilla, hazelnut, mint, caramel and toffee.”

Price: $13.00 for spirited, $8.00 for regular

We were really excited to try this hot chocolate this year because last year’s was absolutely delicious. This years was also very good. The combination of all the flavours went together so perfectly. The chocolate was perfect and creamy and with the caramel it was amazing.

The salted peanut and caramel whip was outstanding you could have ate it just by itself. Our alcoholic hot chocolate came with Cadello 88 and Rum Chata so it was a little more boozy than expected. Once everything was mixed together and sat for a couple minutes it really tasted amazing.

ReGrub

Dulce De Leche Spoon Bomb

“Dulce De Leche Hot Chocolate Spoon Bomb is not your average beverage! Get messy with a rimmed cup of dripping creamy Dulce encapsulating some delectable melted chocolate in a cup of rich coffee (or steamed milk). Immerse in the experience of putting your spoon bomb into a steaming cup of Joe (or steamed milk) and watching the fluffy marshmallows pop to the top. Its not only energizing but also a comfort drink. P.S. our to-go cups have a little something special on them too!”

Price: $8.00

The hot chocolate had really good flavour once the spoon bomb was all melted in. It did take a while to melt into the steamed milk which meant that the milk cooled a little more than we would have liked. All the flavours of this hot chocolate blend so perfectly together and also separate. The Dulce around the outside of the mug was really great, it was like they had added salt to it.

The only comment is we wished that they would have done a milkshake since that is what ReGrub is known for. Maybe next year.

Buddy’s Bakery

Buddy’s Fooman Cinnamon Hot Chocolate

“This rich hot chocolate encapsulates the essence of coziness, of being home nestled in front of a fire with your favourite blanket and a good book. We combined the goodness of chocolate, the warmth of freshly ground cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg and topped it off with fresh whip, cinnamon and a Buddy’s Cinnamon Fooman Cookie. Creamy and comforting, it’s a sure cure for the winter blues.”

Price: $5.00

Before I start if you are wondering what a Fooman Cookie is, we did too. “It is a cookie from the northern Gilan province and is often made as a special treat for the Persian New Year. The cookie is traditionally filled with cinnamon and walnuts.”

The drink was delicious and had the perfect amount of cinnamon in it, the cookie was a great addition to the drink. The drink was hot which was great and very creamy. The only comment I would make is to give them a call before heading there to make sure that they are open.
