Dark Cocoa with Toasted Banana Meringue – $7.00

With Valrhona 70% dark chocolate, cacao powder, sweet cream, and banana powder-infused house made meringue.

Unfortunately we had to get this beverage to-go so it doesn’t look the prettiest, but we plan on heading back this month to get one in a mug so it would look better. The whole team came up with the idea for this hot chocolate which is always great to hear.

The hot chocolate is very very luscious and creamy since it was made with dark cocoa, but the meringue was absolutely delicious. It is made with banana powder infused meringue. We were very pleased to taste the combination of the chocolate and meringue.

This hot chocolate has a very strong chocolate flavour and when the meringue melts in it tastes like a liquid chocolate banana cream pie. It is absolutely delicious.

Raspberry Beret – $7.00

House-made Vegan Raspberry Dark Chocolate Sauce with Oat Milk.  Topped with Vegan Coconut Whipped Cream, Raspberry Drizzle, and Vegan Chocolate Ganache Torte  (Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Nut Free)

This hot chocolate is very delicious and very creamy, the oat milk brings a creaminess to the beverage that is really good. We were excited that this is completely vegan friendly and full of flavour. The raspberry sauce on the top is made from real raspberries and was really nice once everything was mixed in with the chocolate.

The only thing we found was a little strange was the Vegan Chocolate Ganache Tart, it didn’t taste like normal vegan chocolate. Don’t eat the whole piece, eat small pieces and it would be better.

This was a very delicious hot chocolate over all and was excited to see it was vegan friendly.

Chicken Bones Hot Chocolate – $6.00

You might be asking yourself what is a chicken bones hot chocolate? Does a hot chocolate really have chicken bones in it? How can it taste? All we can say for sure is that you’ll never know unless you experience one for yourself. This game changing hot chocolate is brought to you by Calgary Heritage Roasting Company and is curated with the infamous east coast delicacy “Chicken Bones” by Ganong Chocolatier. Warning: Calgary Heritage Roasting Company will not be responsible for over consumption of delicious Chicken Bones Hot Chocolate or if customers start walking, pecking and roosting.

When we arrived it was really busy and we had the opportunity to ask who created this beverage and it was one of the owners. Chicken Bones Candy is an East Coast classic candy that everyone loves. They melted it down and put with the chocolate.  It is a very pretty and simple display which makes it look really good.

The flavours of a Chicken Bone are very subtle and you can taste the cinnamon a little which is really good. This hot chocolate is very delicious especially since you get a Chicken Bone with your hot chocolate.

Malibu Coconut Bliss – $9.00

Coconut Ripple Bliss – $6.00

Steamed Coconut Milk, Butterscotch Chocolate Chip, Toasted Coconut Flakes & Marshmallows. Drizzled with Chocolate Syrup. For the alcohol one you get a shot of Malibu Rum with it.

It was shocking to see that the smaller of the two we got was the one with alcohol in it. The taste was very similar in both, just the one had the addition of Malibu Rum. You would think that all the coconut flavour would be too much, it wasn’t. It was delicious.

The regular one was also really delicious, the flavour combination with all the components was amazing. They were both very creamy since being made with Coconut Milk, it made it smooth and rich. They were just amazing.

The only comments we have is we wish the temperature was hotter, it was more like a luke warm and that will happen when you place marshmallows inside. The other is that when you eat all the toppings, and I would suggest you do, some of the coconut flakes fall into the hot chocolate and you have to be careful not to swallow them. We found we have to drink very carefully not to have any go down the throat.

Overall these were both very delicious hot chocolates.

“Pumkin” Hot Chocolate – $5.75

Just the same as the Fairy Godmother metamorphosed an ordinary gourd into an extraordinary carriage, this hot chocolate will carry you on a flavourful journey. With a mixture of chocolate, pumpkin and spices, this drink alters as you indulge in its richness. Sit back and enjoy as your tastebuds are whisked away. Best part? You don’t have to worry about your beverage transforming back.

The presentation of this hot chocolate is very pretty with cocoa and cinnamon on top. The hot chocolate was rich and creamy with a subtle flavour of pumpkin, which was nice since too much pumpkin would be gross. It was really delicious and it’s a new take on a hot chocolate.

We did comment that some would like a little more pumpkin flavour so they may play with adding a little more of the pumpkin sauce to their hot chocolates. Overall this is a very good hot chocolate and would suggest trying this if you are in the North West.

Sapori di Sicilia – $5.99

A gourmet thick and smooth 70% Madagascar Dark Chocolate with Italian Pistachio cream. Topped with homemade whipped cream, a snowfall of Bronte Pistachio and finished off with a Pistachio drizzle. A daydream for every chocolate lover.

Let me start by saying we had a rocky start to trying this hot chocolate, we went on Sunday the 2nd and we tried two separate times to try the drink and then gave up.

Today we decided to head there right after work, third times the charm because we were able to try it today. Before I talk about their creation, know that depending on the day and who creates it for you, you will either enjoy it with a straw or with a spoon.

Today we had to use a spoon, it was like a pudding cup with pistachio whip which was really delicious. We were more shocked that it wasn’t a true hot chocolate and more of a dessert. The lady we chatted with said that it is how hot chocolates are made in Italy, which we found very interesting.  Nevertheless, I enjoyed the experience of another kind of hot chocolate.  To me it definitely felt like having dessert.

So just know that this hot chocolate it is definitely different than others you will try this month. I do applaud the experience and this is why I love the creative process of this event.

Toffifee Hot Chocolate DL – $6.00

Remember when you were  young and you would find bowls of Toffifee candies throughout the house around the holidays…well, we have created a mouthwatering hot chocolate based off those delicious sweets. By combining the flavors of hazelnut, toffee and chocolate, we have made one of the tastiest hot chocolates that take you back to being a kid again!

We found out that this hot chocolate was created by one person, Jessica, that works at Bike and Brew. The idea came to her just after Christmas and we agreed that it is a great combination of the flavours. It is a very beautiful beverage as well, very comparable to the hot chocolate that they created last year.

There is a wonderful combination of all the flavours of hazelnut, toffee and chocolate. We asked for one with half hazelnut and it was delicious. We only suggested that they make the hot chocolate a little hotter, because once the whip is added the temperature decreases quite rapidly. But other than that it was a delicious hot chocolate. Definitely go and try this hot chocolate if you have the chance.

Another one in the top list for my daughter, at least for now.

Hexagon Cafe

PB+J Hot Chocolate – $6.50

Romeo and Juliet. Bonnie and Clyde. Mark Anthony and Cleopatra – all examples of an epic story of love and romance. These stories shall be told and retold for the rest of time. However, they all pale in comparison to the greatest love story of all time: Peanut Butter and Jelly.  Hexagon Café is now presenting liquid joy materialized in the form of our PB+J Hot Chocolate. Creamy, smooth peanut butter is combined with our luxurious hot chocolate; decorated with a crunchy honey graham cracker rim, then topped off with a whipped cream and strawberry jam drizzle and garnished with mini Reese’s cups. Come and taste destiny.

It is a very gorgeous hot chocolate even for grab and go, if I would have stayed it would have been even more extravagant. The flavour was amazing, you could taste both the peanut butter and the jam.

The hot chocolate is fused with peanut butter and it has a smooth texture especially with the seedless strawberry jam. The best part was the final sip because everything was mixed together and it was delicious.

This is my daughter’s favourite hot chocolate so far.

Rosso – Tuxedo

Aztec Snowcap – $5.50

A spicy, natural hot cocoa topped with a sweet and salty cool cream that unites to create a   harmonious flavour balance and a rich, velvet mouthfeel.

The first hot chocolate the lady made spilt everywhere and she had to make a second one, which was nice because then the photo would look amazing. We wished that the temperature of the hot chocolate was a little hotter because it was more luke warm. It was a really great combination of spicy and sweet and a little salty.

Rosso has had really great hot chocolates in the past and we were excited to try this year’s creation. The only thing I would say that if you don’t like cinnamon I would ask for less cinnamon on the top.
